We already heard it several times this week and some last week. Generally, people always remember the most recent event and forget about the more significant one.
In the last week, I have already heard several times about the 2011 Clemson-Wofford game, and I have even written about it twice. And I’m about to now as well.
Wofford, who will play No. 12 Clemson in Death Valley this Saturday (12:30 p.m.), gave the Tigers a run for their money in that 2011 meeting. The game was tied at halftime and Clemson held just an eight-point lead in the fourth-quarter before finally making a fourth-quarter stop to preserve a 35-27 victory.
It’s funny to think back now how many fans thought the 2011 season was doomed after that game. Most of them booed the Tigers as they were coming off the field and into the locker room at halftime. The following week on the radio and message boards, fans were predicting Clemson to win no more than six games and no one thought the Tigers had a shot to beat defending national champion Auburn the following Saturday in Clemson. Those Tigers were carrying a 17-game winning streak into Death Valley.
