Earlier this week, college coaches were permitted to contact prospects from the 2017 class. Four-star wide receiver [autotag]J.T. Cauthen[/autotag] has heard from several schools.
[autotag]Clemson[/autotag] tight ends coach Danny Pearman, who recruits the Charlotte area, was one of the first to hit him up.
Coaches from Notre Dame, Georgia, UNC, N.C. State, Oklahoma, Duke and South Carolina have also been in contact.
Cauthen (Waxhaw-Cuthbertson) is ranked by 247 as the 24th-best wide receiver in the class of 2017. He’s also listed as the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of North Carolina.
This summer, Cauthen made two camp stops: Duke and UNC.
“I’m going to start going on a lot more visits, but this summer was kind of calm,” he said. “I just went to a few camps…before that, I went to Clemson and got to watch them practice, got to go through a whole day, like if I were to go to Clemson. Saw what the players do, what they do in the film room, specifically, receivers — my position. I really enjoyed that.”
Cauthen added, “They’re well-organized with what they do and how fast they do it, what they’re accomplishing. At Cuthbertson, we have a fast-paced offense just like they do. Everything is fast-paced. They’re flying around and that’s something that I liked that they do. And how in-depth they go with the film.
“The coaches really breakdown what you do right and what you do wrong. They really teach you what you’re doing.”
No plans for a return have been made, but he’s “definitely” looking to make arrangements.
Cauthen will attend the UNC and South Carolina game on Thursday and could visit Virginia Tech on Monday for the Ohio State game.
“Right now, I do not have a top…I do plan on getting my list. I’m still sorting it out right now,” he said.
