Jeff Scott, Tony Elliott and Dabo Swinney have been saying since the last week of camp that Clemson was at least eight deep at wide receiver. I guess we are all about to find out just how deep they truly are.
On Sunday evening Swinney announced star wide receiver Mike Williams, a preseason first-team All-ACC selection, had a small fracture in his neck. The good news is he does not need to have surgery to fix it, the bad news is has to wear a neck brace for the next six weeks or so until it is completely healed. Williams will be able to play football again, but Swinney does know if that means they will get him back in six weeks or next year.
What it does mean is the 12th-ranked Tigers have to move on without him. I don’t care how much talent Clemson has at its receiver positions, losing a guy that lead the team with 1,030 yards on just 57 catches a year ago is a big loss and he will be hard to replace.
