So the ACC will not make the College Football Playoffs. That is all I have been hearing since the preseason.
Since July, the so-called experts have claimed the ACC is the weakest of the Power 5 Conferences. I understand there might be some truth to that through the first three weeks of the season. The ACC is after all 3-8 against other Power 5 Conference schools and Notre Dame.
So perception is reality, right? But where did that perception come from in the preseason?
All the ACC did last year was win almost every big game against the other Power 5 Conferences. ACC teams recorded a nation’s best five wins against top 10 foes in 2014, while also sweeping its season-ending four-game series with the SEC.
And though the ACC is off to a bad start this year, the reality is it has an opportunity to turn things around.
On Oct. 3, Notre Dame, whom almost everyone seems to have locked into the College Football Playoffs, visits Clemson for the first time since 1977. If the Tigers, who are ranked No. 10 by the coaches, come away with a victory, isn’t the ACC all of sudden in play for the CFB Playoffs?
