Ryan Jones, one of the top prospects in state of North Carolina for the class of 2017, is considering a return to Clemson for the Notre Dame game.
The junior out of Charlotte-Mallard Creek was on campus in the spring twice, first for Junior Day and again for the Orange and White game.
“It’s a real great atmosphere for football, because the fans are super excited,” Jones said. “Even for the spring game, it’s pretty — I’m not used to seeing fans like that just for a spring game. But it was the same way as it was for a real game, with fans tailgating and stuff like that.”
Danny Pearman serves as Jones’ area recruiter, but Jeff Scott is also playing a role.
“(Scott) thinks I’m a good receiver,” Jones said. “He said there are some things I need to work on, but he always has positive things to say about me. He says he wants to work with me in camp and stuff like that, so always positive stuff.”
So far this season, Jones has taken visits to Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
“On the way there, there are great views. Then, once you got there, the fans are phenomenal. The stadium is super loud. That’s probably the loudest stadium I’ve been in,” he said of the Tennessee visit.
When asked about the Virginia Tech trip, Jones said, “It was great. From the team entering and stuff, both of the games were really exciting.”
All of the schools have offered. So have N.C. State, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
“I don’t really have any favorites. I’m just going to go on as many visits as I can, explore as many schools as I can. I’ll probably narrow it own towards the end of the season,” Jones said.
Several factors will be considered by the 6-2, 200-pound prospect.
“I’m going to be looking for schools that actually want me, have interest in me. I don’t need attention, but shows they have an actual interest in me…and they need a wide receiver or whatever position. I’ll be looking at that as well,” Jones said.
Some schools are recruiting him as safety. Does he have a preference for one side of the ball over another?
“I would say receiver, but if the transition comes to where I think I would be better suited on defense, I think I would make the transition,” Jones said.
In last week 28-7 win against McDonogh, a school from Maryland, Jones had 120 yards rushing and over 100 yards receiving.
