The push to fill up the 2016 offensive line class continues.
On the current roster are three seniors. The class dropped from four when Isaiah Battle left Clemson earlier this summer, to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, leaving behind Ryan Norton, Eric Mac Lain and Joe Gore.
This season’s juniors are Tyrone Crowder, Maverick Morris and Jay Guillermo. Justin Falcinelli and Taylor Hearn are both sophomores.
Two of the freshmen from the 2015 haul: Mitch Hyatt and Jake Fruhmorgen are playing this year. Zach Giella and Noah Green are redshirting. Also on the Clemson roster are a pair of preferred walk-on freshmen: Seth Penner and Logan Tisch.
With a majority of the players on the current roster labeled as guards and centers, the emphasis is at tackle.
Clemson has commitments from a pair of tackle prospects: Sean Pollard and Chandler Reeves. Pollard could actually play guard and tackle.
The pursuit of four-star John Simpson (Fort Dorchester) continues. Like Pollard, Simpson could play along the interior or on the outside at tackle for Clemson. Several other schools remain in the hunt, including South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee.
More prospects could emerge as targets as the Clemson staff evaluates fall film.
At this juncture, it doesn’t look like 2017 four-star offensive tackle Noah DeHond will move back to the 2016 class. Remember, he reclassified from the ’16 to ’17 class earlier this spring, and that’s when the offers started to roll in.
If possible, perhaps it’s an avenue worth traveling. In the meantime, here are a few more 2017 offensive linemen we’re keeping a close eye on:
[autotag]Eric Douglas[/autotag] – Mallard Creek – Charlotte
Clemson hosted Douglas during the Dabo Swinney Football Camp, before pulling the trigger on an offer. South Carolina has received heavy consideration and was thought to be in line for a commitment. Douglas will visit Clemson next Saturday for the Notre Dame game.
[autotag]Jonathon MacCollister[/autotag] – Moore Catholic – Orlando, Fla.
MacCollister scooped up his offer from Clemson in May, during the spring evaluation period. Jeff Scott and Robbie Caldwell hosted him for a visit in July. Auburn also had him on campus. The two Tigers are running ahead of the pack.
[autotag]Andrew Thomas[/autotag] – Pace Academy – Atlanta
Clemson hosted Thomas for camp in June, when he visited with one of his teammates, 2018 offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer. Thomas will be in Georgia next weekend for their Alabama date, which is the same weekend as Clemson’s showdown with Notre Dame. Instead, he’ll visit for the Florida State game.
[autotag]Blake Vinson[/autotag] – North Marion – Citra, Fla.
In December, Vinson watched one of Clemson’s Russell Athletic Bowl practices in the Orlando area. He paid a visit to Tigertown in the spring, to watch spring practice. Vinson returned in June with his teammates for a quick look at the campus. Several of the SEC’s top programs have also offered.
