Davondre Robinson might be the best overall prospect in the state for the 2017 class.
The Lake Marion High School junior has been to Clemson twice this season. First, for the Notre Dame game, and again for Georgia Tech.
“Last night, they played a tremendous game,” Robinson told TheClemsonInsider on Sunday afternoon. “They played real physical stopping the triple-option. They were getting to the ball. I liked that.”
When asked about the Notre Dame visit, he said: “That was a nice visit. The weather was kind of bad coming up, but we still made it up.”
Robinson added, “It was a good game. I liked the game and the way the coaches were talking.
He paid close attention to No. 1 when the Clemson defense was defending against Georgia Tech.
“I was watching Jayron Kearse and how he was coming up. He had three tackles for loss and I was impressed with that,” Robinson said.
He added, “He’s one of my favorite players on Clemson. I watch him a lot.”
Defensive backs coach Mike Reed, along with area recruiter Marion Hobby, spent plenty of time speaking with Robinson during his visits.
“They said that it was the place for me to come and they hoped that I enjoyed the game,” Robinson said.
A return to Clemson is scheduled for the Florida State game. In addition to his two trips to Clemson, Robinson has also been to Tennessee, for the Oklahoma game.
Both schools have offered. So have South Carolina, Georgia and UNC.
There is no list of favorites to speak of right now.
“I’m just still taking it slow and enjoying the process,” Robinson said.
This season, he has around 46 tackles with two interceptions. On the offensive side of the ball, he’s also scored 11 rushing touchdowns.
