Georgia LB enjoys Death Valley debut

After visiting over the summer for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp, three-star outside linebacker Chandler Wooten was anxious to get back up to Clemson.

The North Cobb High School (Kennesaw, Ga.) returned on Saturday for Clemson’s win over Georgia Tech.

“It was great. It was time for me to get up there for a game. I’d been looking forward to it for a long time,” Wooten said.

He added, “I’d been ready to get on campus to see what it’s like in a game atmosphere and the fans were crazy, even in the rain. They really have some great fans.

“The players seem like they’re really excited to play for coach Dabo Swinney and coach (Brent) Venables. It’s a great atmosphere. My parents loved it as well.”

What stood out on Saturday?

“I mean, the whole entire experience stood out to, because that’s just a place I’ve been looking forward to going to for a while.”

Wooten spoke with Venables before and after the game.

“He was just telling me that he was glad I made it, because I was supposed to go the week before, but I didn’t make it because of weather,” Wooten said “All of the coaches, they were just happy that I was there and they made me feel welcomed. They made me feel appreciated.”

And he appreciated the emotion Swinney displayed in the locker room after the game.

“It was good to see coach Dabo Swinney in there dancing with them. It was good to see how they interact with each other in the locker room after the game,” Wooten said.

This season, Wooten has also been to Auburn for a game. He’ll head to Duke on Halloween before returning to Clemson for the Florida State game.

Along with Clemson and Duke, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, UNC, Penn State and Tennessee have offered.

“I don’t really have a specific favorite. I’m really just taking it all in stride right now,” Wooten said. “I’m feeling my way through the process and enjoying it right now,” Wooten said.

Several factors will be considered.

“I’m really looking for a school where it’s just a family atmosphere,” he said. “Wherever I go, I want it to feel like home to me. I want to interact with the coaches well, build relationships.

“It’s all about how you feel and where you go, and I feel like I want to somewhere that I fit into the system very well, where it suits my game, but not only football related. I want to go somewhere I can get the best academic experience that I can.”
