Artavis Scott doesn’t care how the yards are added up once they’re on the stat sheet.
When Scott goes in motion on the jet sweep and receives the short, little toss from Deshaun Watson, it’s counted as a pass.
Some stat nerds believe it should count as a run. The pro-passing crowd likes it as is.
Run. Pass. Who cares? Scott certainly has no preference.
“It really doesn’t matter either way. It’s great yardage for our team. I mean, it’s whatever,” he said.
Through five games this season, Scott is first among Clemson pass catchers with 29 receptions for 281 yards. Only Jordan Leggett (four) has more than Scott’s three touchdown catches.
During last season’s narrow win at Boston College, Scott had 10 catches for 72 yards.
“If you watch the game, we just didn’t execute the things we knew we could do. We were kind of getting away from that. When these plays are called this weekend, we’ve got to make them, and make them stick,” Scott said. “That’s the biggest thing.”
Boston College enters Saturday’s game with the No. 1 defense in the country.
“What people say is true. They’re a very strong defense, just like last year,” Scott said. “They almost beat us last year, but we were fortunate enough to get out of there with a win. They’re a strong defense. I love to watch them…that’s a strong team, but we’re going to be ready for them, without a doubt. I feel like we have the best defense, but we’re going to see come Saturday in this game.”
Yards, through the air and on the ground, could be at a premium when the Eagles fly into Tigertown. Clemson will take them however they’re available.
“We’re going to take what the defense gives us. If that’s what they’re going to do, we’ll take what they give us every game,” Scott said. “If it’s more running than it is passing, that’s what it’s going to be. There’s no big deal. We’re just going to go out there. We just want to win, at the end of the day.”
