Tigers have more scoring opportunities at the point

Clemson assistant basketball coach Steve Smith, who will be getting inducted into his high school Hall of Fame at Wade Hampton High School in Hampton, S.C., says the Tigers will get more opportunities to score at the point guard position than it has in the past.

San Francisco transfer Avery Holmes will replace Rod Hall at the point this season. Holmes, a junior, averaged 12 points per game in his first two years at San Francisco. Senior Jordan Roper, who scored 6.5 points per game last year, will also work at the point.

“Avery Holmes can really shoot the ball, and obviously Roper can score. So there will definitely be more shots,” Smith said. “Rod took about seven or eight shots when he had to and it was all down hill attacking the rim. These guys are more shooters. Avery is going to shoot the ball a little bit more.”
