Before his trip up for Saturday’s game against Boston College, Blake Vinson had already been up to Clemson twice this year.
The three-star tackle first visited to watch spring practice. Trip No. 2 was in June, during the Dabo Swinney Football Camp, when he and several teammates from North Marion High School (Citra, Fla.) stopped by the school.
Vinson visited Saturday with his parents and sister.
“I had a really good trip. We drove up yesterday morning and got there about 4 o’clock. It was a really good trip,” he told TheClemsonInsider.
While on campus, Vinson spent about 15 minutes with in Dabo Swinney’s office. The Tigers’ head coach was joined by his wife, Kathleen.
“I never met her before, so that was pretty cool,” Vinson said.
Swinney told Vinson that he fit “their standards” at Clemson.
“For me to be in his office, that means he thinks I’m a special player, and I would be a good fit at Clemson,” Vinson said. “And he started talking about the Clemson family and started talking about the program a little bit.”
This season, he’s also been to games at Florida and Tennessee. Trips to Ole Miss and LSU could be made before it’s over.
“After the season, I want to try to narrow my list to five schools,” Vinson said. “Just really want to focus on all of those schools again and really start looking seriously and hard to where i want to commit. I really want to commit some time around spring ball, or maybe the summer.”
Clemson has a good chance at making the cut.
“I’m not saying they’re in my top five, but I really like Clemson a lot,” Vinson said.
