Last spring, Clemson co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Jeff Scott proclaimed Clemson as the new “Wide Receiver U.”
Though others schools and coaches such as Tennessee wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni took exception to Scott’s proclamation, it’s hard to argue with it, especially after Sunday’s record-setting day by former Clemson wideouts DeAndre (Nuk) Hopkins and Martavis Bryant.
“It’s awesome. That is what it is all about,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said Sunday evening.
Hopkins hauled on 10 catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Houston Texans to a 31-20 road victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hopkins became the first player in NFL history to haul in at least nine passes for at least 145 yards in three consecutive games.

Hopkins has already caught 52 passes for 726 yards and five touchdowns this year.
“There are not just guys going on and being successful in the NFL. Whatever it is (former players) are doing, just seeing them be successful in whatever it is that comes next for them after they leave Clemson, that’s what’s great,” Swinney said.
As for Bryant, he became just the second player in NFL history to record two touchdowns of at least 88 yards in his first two seasons. On Sunday, he clinched the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 25-13 win over Arizona when he took a 10-yard slant from backup quarterback Landry Jones, cut up the middle of the field and then back to the near sideline where he proceeded to out run the entire Arizona secondary for the clinching score.

“I’m proud of those guys. I’m not surprised. They are very talented,” Swinney said. “They made a lot of big plays here. They have just carried that over to the next level. Hopefully, they can continue to help their teams in that regard.”
Bryant caught a 94-yard touchdown pass in the Steelers’ Week 13 win over Cincinnati last year. In his first game back after serving a four-game suspension by the NFL, the second-year player caught six passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns as the Steelers rallied in the second half to beat the Cardinals.
