The chase for the College Football Playoff continues. Each week the TCI staff gives their four playoff teams.
Here is this week’s edition.
Robert MacRae – Ohio State remains in the top four after their best performance of the year. Clemson stays in with a convincing win over Boston College and the clearest path to the playoff. TCU remains in the mix until they lose. I’ll go with LSU as my fourth team this week.
William Qualkinbush – Finally, Ohio State came to play. The Buckeyes were impressive on Saturday, so they are still in my top four. Utah has perhaps the best resume in the country thus far, so the Utes are in. Baylor’s schedule should embarrass everyone involved, but the Bears have been impressive enough to knock TCU out of my list. I really don’t see how Clemson gets left out in anyone’s playoff list right now, either.
Ed McGranahan – This week’s Ferocious Four: Baylor — best offense; Clemson — best defense; Iowa — best remaining schedule; Memphis — best quarterback.
Hale McGranahan – It looked a little shaky for Ohio State against Maryland, but the No. 1 in the country pulled out a 21-point win over Maryland and it’s now jobless head coach. Utah took fared well in the first leg of its tough three-game stretch. They’re still my No. 2 team. I like that TCU broke 50 again. I don’t like that they needed more than 50 to win again. However, they’re still third on my list. Alabama’s playoff spot is on the line as they head to College Station to play Texas A&M. The Agges will vault into the conversation with a win. Like the rest of the list, my five and six spots remain unchanged: Baylor and Clemson, respectively.
Will Vandervort: It’s easier to tell you who will not make the playoffs then who I think will be in. Right now, I feel Clemson deserves to be in the playoffs and so does Utah. I feel LSU should get in if it wins the SEC. In my opinion, right now, it’s the only SEC team that deserves to be in the conversation. I’m not a fan of Baylor or TCU because they can’t stop a nosebleed on defense. Sorry, Qualk! Championship teams play defense, too. Michigan State should have a loss and Alabama lost to an Ole Miss team that just got hammered by Memphis. Yes, that should be held against Alabama. I still don’t know what Ohio State is doing, but I believe it is the most talented team in the country, and in the end the Buckeyes will be there.
