Anchrum recaps Clemson official visit

Tremayne Anchrum Jr. began his official visit to Clemson at 9 o’clock on Saturday morning.

“It was great. It was really, really fun. I enjoyed myself, got a better feel for Clemson, got a better feel for the environment, the atmosphere. It was really cool,” he told TheClemsonInsider, on Sunday night.

The three-star offensive lineman from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga. started his day at breakfast with the players and coaches, before he sat in on the offensive and special teams meetings.

Offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell spent plenty of time at his side throughout the morning.

“He was telling me what he sees in me and the program and how I could make a difference and continue this tradition, things like that,” Anchrum said. “We went through a tour of the campus with my family, then met with the team in the pre-game talked to them a little bit, saw them go through their pre-game talk and sat down for the game.”

The experience was an “amazing” one.

“All the games I’ve been to at Clemson, it’s always packed tight like that,” Anchrum said. “People always show up and are ecstatic. The student-section — just the crowd, in general, it was one, big student-section. They’re all for the team, good, bad, ugly, whatever happens.

“It was electric. The intensity was there. I like how the team made adjustments in the second half when Dalvin Cook, after he busted that one long run, they went back to the scheme and adjusted. They had the adjustments and I thought that was awesome.”

Mitch Hyatt served as his player-host. They knew each other from Hyatt’s high school days at North Gwinnett

Clemson’s starting left tackle gave Anchrum the players’ perspective on life as a Tiger.

“He told me that it was like most people say, how family it is. He said it’s real, how everybody supports everybody and the coaches are really diligent,” Anchrum said. “Coach (Tony) Elliott is one of the best coaches and offensive coordinators he’s ever had  and coach Caldwell is an awesome line coach.”

Anchrum added, “He’s just happy he made the right choice. He just said it felt right and he told me about his experience. He just told me about how the things are in Clemson and the people and he said it’s awesome.”

Head coach Dabo Swinney was joined by Caldwell on Sunday, during their exit meeting

“We were kind of wrapping things up. (Swinney) was saying how they want me and need me and how I’d bring great versatility to the line and add some more depth up front…he told me a lot,” Anchrum said.

Anchrum added, “It was big run-down, how everything happens at Clemson and everybody comes back. It’s really, if you come here, it’s a real family. It’s not going to be anything else like it. He said they work on the people first and the player second.”

Now that he’s back home in Georgia, Anchrum will consider his options. Colorado and Nebraska received official visits before his third and final official to Clemson.

“I’m just going to sit with my thoughts and make a decision, coming soon,” he said.

There is no specific date, only the plans to graduate early

“I’m just going to make my decision soon, when it comes,” Anchrum said.

Scout ranks Anchrum as the No. 29 offensive guard in the class of 2016.
