South Carolina commitment hits Clemson

South Carolina commitment J.J. Givens was impressed with what he saw during his first look at Clemson.

The three-star safety from Atlee High School in Mechanicsville, Va. visited on Saturday for the Florida State game.

“Honestly, I liked Clemson’s football team, just overall, like the perseverance that they had,” Givens said. “After Florida State scored on the second play from scrimmage, all of the energy kind of died from the crowd. Then, the very next drive, they got the energy back.

“It just showed the resiliency of their football team and the heart that they have.”

Givens is planning to take an official Clemson, but he hasn’t nailed down any plans.

“I’m trying to find a good time to pop down, because I want to spend as much time as possible talking with the coaches,” he said of Clemson. “It’s in the works, I would say, but nothing is set in stone. But it’s definitely under consideration.”

Wisconsin and South Carolina are scheduled to host him this month.

Givens looks forward to spending more time with Clemson when he returns as an official guest.

“I talked to coach (Mike) Reed a little bit, but it was only, like, a two-minute talk, because had to hurry up and get on the field, so I didn’t really get a super in-depth talk,” Givens said, “But he was telling me that he was glad I was on campus, great to have me and it was great.”

Givens won’t graduate in December, as originally planned. This season, he has 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.
