Four-star enjoys first Valley experience

Shaq Smith isn’t the only Maryland linebacker at the IMG Academy that’s on Brent Venables’ radar.

Jordan Anthony, a 2017 four-star from Olney, played in seven games this season, appearing as a running back. He finished with 43 carries for 241 yards and three touchdowns and two catches for 23 yards.

Earlier this month, Anthony returned to Clemson for the Florida State game.

“It was great. I had a great time. I loved it,” he said.

Anthony went into detail.

“Just walking around. I was walking by people and they were saying, ‘Hey, Jordan, you should come down here. You’d love it down here. You should come down here.’ Things like that. A lot of people knew who I was. They knew my name was Jordan Anthony,” he said. “I definitely liked that. Definitely the atmosphere. I’d heard a lot about it, but to actually experience it, those fans are really into it. That as a lot of fun, too.”

Brent Venables spoke with the 6-1, 215-pound prospect.

“We talked a little bit about things he liked about me, my game, my instincts, things like that, where he would probably have me play, things like that,” Anthony said. “He told me about his history and how he coached at Oklahoma, and just basically talked about the graduation rate and things like that. Basically, just try to sell me on the place, and he did a great job.”

Clemson hosted him for a quick visit in June, during the Dabo Swinney Football Camp, when he stopped by the school with 2017 defensive end Josh Paschal.

The Florida State showdown was his first game day experience in Death Valley.

“That was a 10 in my book. The fans were in it the whole night. They were loud and cheering, everything. It was great,” Anthony said.

Auburn, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Oklahoma have also offered.

“Still no top-five or anything like that. If I had a top-three, Clemson would be up there. I can say that, if I had a top-five. Otherwise, I’m not really sure yet,” Anthony said.
