Venables offers another Virginia prospect

Since arriving to Clemson almost four years ago, Brent Venables has actively recruited in Virginia and Maryland.

Late last month, the Tigers’ defensive coordinator sent out an offer to Virginia Beach defensive end Jordan Williams, a 2017 four-star from Cox High School.

“I was talking to my head coach, coach (Brad) Nelson, and he was telling me that Clemson called,” Williams said. “Coach Venables, the defensive coordinator, called him about me. They were talking for a good 30 minutes and that night he wrote down on a sticky note his number and said give him a call, he wants to talk to you about something.

“I called him and he told me the good news.”

Williams has offers from NC State, Penn State, Temple, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, among a few others.

“(Venables) was just telling me a little bit more about Clemson. I didn’t know that much…they love me as a player and love everything about the way I play and they were fired up about me,” Williams said.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound prospect is impressed with what he’s seen from the Tigers this year.

“They’re having a great season. They’re an exciting team to watch,” he said. “You can definitely tell they’re well-coached. Guys are disciplined and they’re physical, just very fun to watch.”

Maryland, NC State, Penn State, Duke, UNC and Virginia hosted him for game day visits this fall.

He’ll begin to narrow down his list of choices once trips are made to Clemson, Virginia Tech and Temple.

As a junior, Williams had  35 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries (one for a score).
