Scott offers USC commit

On Monday, Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott stopped by Knoxville Catholic to offer 2017 wide receiver Amari Rodgers.

Rodgers committed to Southern Cal earlier this summer, just a couple of weeks after he was in Clemson for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp. He worked out with Scott during the one-day workout in session one.

“He’s a great coach. He taught me a couple of things, too. I didn’t just go down there and do the camp,” Rodgers said. “He treated me like I was a player and he taught me a couple of things, so that was great.”

His father is Tee Martin, the former Tennessee quarterback, who’s an assistant coach at USC.

“USC and Clemson are my main two schools right now. I’m just, USC is my No. 1 school, but I like Clemson a lot,” Rodgers said. “I’m still open. I’m still open to schools. I just want to stay open, so I’ve got to make sure USC is the school I want to be, so I’m still open to Clemson and want to go there as much as I can, to see if I want to go there or not.”

Clemson first had him on campus in 2014 for the Louisville game.

“It’s amazing. Game day is a great atmosphere. Students get really involved in the football team and the fans are really great, too,” Rodgers said. “Their tradition is great with the run down the hill and all that.

“The campus feel overall, just how they have the lake and all the different things that you can do on campus, I really like it.”

Scott’s offer was the first Clemson tender of the current recruiting period.

“I like Clemson a lot and how they got those two to the league, and how they develop their game,” Rodgers said. “I’ve always watched Clemson and coach Jeff Scott has developed great players in the league, so I’ve always liked them.”

As a junior, he had 61 catches for 1,570 yards with 31 touchdowns.
