SPARTANBURG – Four-star wide receiver Diondre Overton is down to Clemson and NC State.
The senior from Greensboro-Page eliminated Tennessee, UNC and Nebraska, but he’ll still make his announcement next month at the Semper Fi All-American game.
“Pretty much, those are the schools that have been giving it their all throughout the recruiting process,” Overton told TCI on Tuesday at Shrine Bowl practice.
NC State had Overton on campus for an official visit earlier this month.
“It was pretty good. I really enjoyed bonding with the commits that were there, people like Tim (Glass) and Dylan (Parham),” he said. “They really showed me a good time down there. NC State is always fun.”
When Overton finishes up this week’s Shrine Bowl festivities, he’ll spend the next couple of weeks finalizing his decision.
“Really just sitting down with my parents and deciding which school is the best for me, not necessarily playing-wise, but education-wise,” Overton said. “The factors are coaching and sports medicine or management and playing time.”
Clemson’s track record with wide receivers is among the pros working in their favor.
“How they develop their wide receivers, they have great success with that. Just looking at the coach (Jeff Scott), I feel like he can develop me,” Overton said. “But that’s also for NC State, both coaches are great coaches. I mean, it’s just going to be a hard decision when it comes to it.”
This week, Overton will spend plenty of time with Clemson wide receiver commitment Cornell Powell.
“That’s always been great. Me and Cornell have been bonding a little bit. We always grew up together. It’s always cool to hang out with him,” Overton said.
As a senior, Overton caught 78 passes for 1,251 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 34 tackles and seven interceptions.
