Alexander shines at media day

MIAMI GARDENS – Mackensie Alexander could have taken the Marshawn Lynch approach to Tuesday’s Orange Bowl media day at Sun Life Stadium.

There was no threat of a fine for a no-show by Alexander, but he didn’t have to say anything.

“Honestly, I didn’t want to be here. I didn’t want to come out. It’s a team-oriented thing. I’m a team player,” he said. “I’ve got to come out and do — all of my teammates are here. That would be selfish of me not to come out here and not talk to you guys.

“I appreciate everything. I’m blessed enough to be here. I’m living the Haitian-American dream.”

That’s the guy Clemson beat reporters have enjoyed during the handful of interviews he’s granted over the last two seasons.

However, Alexander clammed up when questions about Oklahoma wide receiver Sterling Shepard were lobbed his way.

“He’s No. 3 and he’s 5-10. And he plays for OU. There’s nothing for me to say about him. He plays for OU,” Alexander said.

The individual matchup, he added, doesn’t matter.

“We’ve got to wait until the game and do what we do. This is a game of performance. I’m not going to sit here and sell a dream…players make plays and coaches coach,” Alexander said. “That’s all.”

His answers about the NFL Draft were comparable.

“There’s no decision that’s been made yet,” Alexander said. “I haven’t made a decision yet.”

Thursday is the priority, not life in the NFL.

“I’m not worrying about it, honestly. I’m at Clemson and I’m enjoying it. I’m here with my teammates, so that’s all that matters right now,” Alexander said.
