The Clemson linebacker class jumped back to three members with Saturday’s commitment by Shaq Smith.
On Monday, Smith and Tre Lamar will go through orientation at Clemson. Jamie Skalski will join them in the summer.
“I’m definitely excited,” Lamar said. “I guess the goal would be to jump in the playbook and try to get acclimated to college as fast as I can.”
That’s what Brent Venables has encouraged Lamar to do shoot for when he gets to school.
“His message to me is get into the playbook, because that’s what’s going to get you out on the field early, just knowing the plays and knowing where to go all the time,” Lamar said.
The four-star from Roswell, Ga. committed to Clemson over several offers, including Alabama and Auburn. A number of factors led to his decision to sign with the Tigers.
“I’d say the atmosphere. You get there and you feel like you are at Clemson,” Lamar said. “It’s a family atmosphere and everybody cares about you.”
Ranked by Rivals as the No. 2 inside linebacker in the class of 2016, Lamar will have a chance to compete for early playing time, with the departure of B.J. Goodson.
“You’re getting a big inside linebacker that loves to hit and get side-to-sideline,” Lamar said.
