Alexander talks Ridley, sort of

PHOENIX – People wanted know what Mackensie Alexander thinks about Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley.

Clemson’s star cornerback had little to no interest in indulging the reporters who crowded around him for an hour at Saturday’s National Championship media day.

Here’s a snippet of what Alexander had to say:

Can you talk about Calvin Ridley, what he brings to the table and how excited you are to square off against him?

Alexander: “What do you want me to say about the guy?”

Well, you know, he’s fast, isn’t he?

Alexander: “Huh?”

He’s fast.

Alexander: “He’s fast, but he ain’t Will Fuller fast. He’s fast, but I’m fast, too, so it’s no biggie. No big deal.

Man-to-man, it’s no big deal.

Alexander: “This ain’t my first rodeo, so I don’t have nothing to say. I don’t boost the guys up. I’m all about earning everything, because I’ve earned everything my whole life…I respect all of my opponents. When it’s time to go out there and compete, I don’t want to boost anybody’s ego, tell him how good they are and all that. I don’t stroke anybody, because nobody has stroked me my whole life.”

Do you do better against premier athletes?

Alexander: “Same thing. When you’re ready to go, he might have a little edge, because of who he is or what he is, what you hear about him. Football is football. It doesn’t change. My week didn’t change this week.”
