Brownell excited about Duke win

GREENVILLE — Clemson head coach Brad Brownell said the Tigers’ 68-63 victory over No. 9 Duke on Wednesday night was exciting in so many ways because they made the plays at the end of the game to get it done.

The Tigers’ win was their second straight over a ranked opponent. It is the first time Clemson has beaten top-25 teams in consecutive games since 1989 when the Tigers ended the ACC regular season.

“It was not just one player,” he said afterwards. “Landry Nnoko was getting offensive and defensive rebounds. Avery (Holmes), obviously, making the free throws at the end, Jordan Roper assisting, Donte’s (Grantham) tying three, (Jaron Blossomgame’s) big three to take the lead, and going 8-for-8 at the line.”

The win was Clemson’s fourth straight in ACC play, the second year in a row the Tigers have done that, and before last year’s four-game run, it had not occurred since the 1997-’98 season.

This marks the second time in the last three years Clemson has opened the ACC season at 4-1.

Clemson will host No. 8 Miami at The Well on Saturday.
