The 2016 commitments will head to Clemson for the first official visit weekend of the year.
That includes four-star defensive end Xavier Kelly, who’s ranked by 247 as the No. 5 weak-side defensive end in the country.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the coaches, bonding with the players and meeting the players I haven’t met yet,” he said.
Kelly keeps in contact with several of his 2016 classmates, including Tre Lamar, Shaq Smith and T.J. Chase.
“We have a group message with the different recruits, to keep us updated on stuff,” Kelly said.
When he arrives for good in the summer, Kelly will have a shot to compete for significant playing time with the early exits by Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd. Kelly was impressed with the duo’s performance in Monday night’s National Championship.
“They played really good that game,” Kelly said. “Shaq played like it was his last game for Clemson. They stepped up and played great. They were a really big factor in the game.”
He added, “We came out there and we fought hard. Clemson gave it their all. At the end of the day, we’re all winners…you’re playing the game that you love and just out there and competing. It doesn’t really get better than that.”
