Monday recruiting Insider Report

Signing Day is just over a week away and the final pieces to the 2016 puzzle appear to be falling into place.

Nothing, of course, is finalized until papers are signed and faxes have been received, but Clemson is well-positioned for some of their final targets.

This past weekend was a productive one for the Tigers. The two non-committed guests, 4-star offensive lineman John Simpson and 4-star safety Romeo Finley, enjoyed the last few days.

TheClemsonInsider was in contact with Finley not long after he finished the visit. He spoke highly of the trip. One source told TCI that Finley “loved it” in Tigertown.

Efforts to reach Simpson for an interview haven’t been as fruitful, but another source said things went well for the Tigers. Clemson is “in a good position” for his signature on Feb. 3.

Finley, who’s going to announce on Feb. 2, will visit Miami. Simpson is scheduled to go to Alabama next weekend. Georgia Tech is also in the mix for Finley and Simpson is also considering Florida and South Carolina.

On Sunday night, Clemson added a new name to the mix when Highland, Va. three-star K’Von Wallace, a Cincinnati wide receiver commitment since July. Wallace is one of the top late-rising prospects — Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and Arizona have all offered within the last several days.

Mike Reed delivered the news, which was quite the surprise for Wallace, who’s ranked as the No. 123 safety in the class of 2016. Clemson offered him as a cornerback.

“It’s amazing. It’s an blessing,” Wallace said.

Two days ago, he told richmond.com that Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Maryland were his finalists. Pittsburgh is scheduled to have him on campus this weekend.

“I don’t know,” Wallace said, when TCI asked about visiting Clemson, “Nothing right now.”

Clemson will have a few more official visitors before Signing Day: 4-star cornerback LaVert Hill, 4-star safety Isaiah Simmons and 3-star safety Daniel Thomas.

The decision for 5-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary is still up in the air. Alabama and Clemson are under consideration for his final official visit. The nation’s top prospect was in Michigan this past weekend.

LaVert, a former Penn State commitment, is coming off a visit to Michigan State. Michigan and Penn State are in the mix.

Simmons saw Nebraska this weekend. He’ll stop by Michigan for a fourth official. Missouri and Illinois round out the group.

Thomas has been to South Carolina and Maryland this month.

The first official visit weekend guests: 4-star cornerback Trayvon Mullen and 4-star defensive tackle Michail Carter were on officials this weekend. Mullen went to LSU and Carter was at Georgia Tech.

For Mullen, the battle is between Clemson, LSU and FSU. Louisville and TCU are also in the mix. Carter just saw Georgia Tech and he’s still scheduled to see Alabama and Georgia.
