Deon Jones, a four-star cornerback from Washington, D.C., is ranked by Rivals and 247 as one of the 10 best cornerbacks in the class of 2017.
Clemson is positioned as the team to beat.
“Coach (Mike) Reed, the defensive backs coach there, I just have a good relationship with him ever since he first offered me,” Jones said. “That was the first offer that I had and it’s one of those things. They saw something in me that other schools didn’t.”
Jones has been to Clemson three times, once for the Wake Forest game last fall and twice for junior day events earlier in the year.
“It was unbelievable. The fans, they were into the game. They did the lights on the cell phone. I had a real good time,” he said. “I didn’t get a chance to stay. In the third quarter, it was a blow-out, so we went home.”
Clemson will have him back on campus in a few days. That’s it for now, but Jones said he has to sit down and put together a travel itinerary.
“A lot of schools are pushing up on me. But, right now, I like Clemson, definitely. Virginia Tech, Michigan State, Ohio State, Florida State, Florida, I like Florida, and there’s a lot of other schools pushing up on me,” he said. “Those are the schools I like right now.”
As a junior, Jones had 24 tackles and three pass breakups.
