Replacement Parts: The OL

Eric Mac Lain and Joe Gore have exhausted their eligibility and will leave behind the starting jobs at left guard and right tackle.

There’s another depth chart vacancy with the graduation by Ryan Norton, who finished his career as the backup center and backup left guard.

Jake Fruhmorgen is expected to take hold of Gore’s opening. During the season, Gore raved about Fruhmorgen and his future as Clemson’s right tackle. The options behind him are wide-ranging.

Fellow 2015 signees Noah Green and Zach Giella are possible backups. Freshmen Sean Pollard and Tremayne Anchrum Jr. are already on campus and will go through spring practice. One or both could get a look at right tackle.

Giella is also a candidate for a depth chart spot at at center. Justin Falcinelli, who’s listed on the final 2015 depth chart as the No. 3 right guard, will also be in the mix as the No. 2 center job.

Left guard has options, too. Maverick Morris, the backup right guard in 2015, could wind up as the starting left guard in 2016. He’s not the only candidate. Just like they are at right tackle, one might speculate that Green, Pollard and Anchrum could get a look at left guard.

If Clemson lands John Simpson on Signing Day, the four-star would add one more body to the conversation at left guard and right tackle.
