Thursday recruiting Insider Report

Just hours after Clemson locked up Rashan Gary for an official visit, Dabo Swinney and Brent Venables flew to New Jersey.

The two coaches stopped by Paramus Catholic on Wednesday to check on Gary and a pair of 2017 four-stars, defensive tackle Corey Bolds and linebacker Drew Singleton. They’ll return the favor and visit Clemson this weekend.

Gary might squeeze in an unofficial stop by Alabama while he’s in the regoin. It’s not set in stone, but the development is something that’s worth monitoring through the weekend, because it could cut Clemson’s time short.

Despite that possibility, TheClemsonInsider actually feels better about the Tigers’ chances of landing the top overall prospect in the country — even better than last night, after we received confirmation that Gary would use his final official on Clemson.

Some information we picked up throughout the day on Wednesday indicates that the Tigers actually have a shot, much better than what most people might think.

The stop by Swinney and Venables, coupled with the official visit, Clemson has every opportunity to make a last-minute push past Michigan.

Clemson is currently hosting K’Von Wallace, who’s taking an official visit. The Cincinnati wide receiver commitment from Highland Springs, Va. was visited by defensive backs coach Mike Reed on Wednesday.

After Reed’s in-home, Wallace had Urban Meyer and two assistant coaches from the Ohio State staff conducted their home visit. We’ll keep an eye on Wallace’s weekend plans, which are currently set for Pittsburgh.

Wallace and Trayvon Mullen (Coconut Creek, Fla.) appear to be the final two cornerback targets for Clemson. Four-star LaVert Hill (Detroit) announced on Wednesday that he would decide between Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State.

South Carolina received a similar bit of news when Fort Dorchester four-star offensive lineman John Simpson spurned their final push. He’ll announce on Signing Day between Clemson, Florida and LSU. Les Miles is scheduled to see Simpson on Thursday. Dabo Swinney and coaches from Clemson are expected to stop by on Friday. As we have already reported we expect Simpson to sign with the Tigers on National Signing Day.
