The decision is in

John Simpson has made his decision and Fort Dorchester head coach Steve LaPrad knows the answer.

Clemson or Florida. The decision will be announced at 12:30 on Wednesday.

“He’s a lot happier now that he’s made his mind up,” LaPrad told TheClemsonInsider on Tuesday afternoon. “He was stressed out pretty bad and he’s finally content with where he’s going. He’s a lot happier, obviously.”

LaPrad is no stranger to the recruiting process. He’s seen several guys go through it during his stint at Fort Dorchester, including current pros Carlos Dunlap, Robert Quinn and Byron Maxwell.

“It’s a struggle for a coach. It’s a struggle for a kid. It’s a struggle for a parent or family. It’s quite an enduring thing. It’s tough,” LaPrad said. “If you don’t commit early, it’s kind of what happens. It’s the game, especially if you’re a good athlete. When you’ve got a lot of schools that want you, it’s tough. It wears on you.”

The decision comes with much anticipation. Clemson, long considered the team to beat, has been on Simpson the longest. He’s visited the school more often than anyone else.

Several others were once under consideration, including LSU, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee.

“Everybody, once he kind of started his junior, everybody starts seeing his potential. And, obviously, he’s perfect size. Everybody jumped on him,” LaPrad said. “Once word gets out in football, this is one sport, when the word gets out, it doesn’t take long.”
