Baseball Preview: The ACC

The Clemson Insider continues its preseason baseball coverage with a quick look around the ACC as we head into the 2016 baseball season. Stay tuned to TCI throughout the preseason as we lead up to Opening Day on Feb. 19.

 

Boston College

2015 record:

27-27 (10-19 ACC, 7th Atlantic)

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Eagles, picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic Division, look to get back to the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2010.

 

Clemson

2015 record:

32-29 (16-13 ACC, 4th Atlantic) – Fullerton Regional

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Tigers, picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic Division, are looking for their 29th NCAA appearance in the past 30 seasons.

 

Duke

2015 record:

31-22 (10-19 ACC, 6th Coastal)

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Blue Devils, picked to finish fifth in the Coastal Division, are looking to go back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1961.

 

Florida State

2015 record:

44-21 (17-13 ACC, T-2nd Atlantic) – Gainesville Super Regional

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Seminoles (#17 BA, #16 CB), picked to finish second in the Atlantic Division, are looking to make their 39th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

 

Georgia Tech

2015 record:

32-23 (13-17 ACC, 5th Coastal)

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Yellow Jackets (#21 CB), picked to finish fourth in the Coastal Division, look to bounce back from last season and make a return trip to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in the last 10 years.

 

Louisville

2015 record:

47-18 (25-5 ACC, 1st Atlantic) – Louisville Super Regional

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Cardinals (#2 BA, #2CB), picked to win the Atlantic Division and as the overall ACC Champion, look to build on last season’s ACC debut and make their fourth CWS appearance in Head Coach Dan McDonnell’s 10 seasons.

 

Miami (FL)

2015 record:

50-17 (22-8 ACC, 1st Coastal) – College World Series

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Hurricanes (#6 BA, #4 CB), picked to win the Coastal Division, are trying to win the division for the third consecutive year and make it back to Omaha for the second straight season.

 

NC State

2015 record:

36-23 (15-14 ACC, 5th Atlantic) – Fort Worth Regional

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Wolfpack (#19 BA), picked to finish third in the Atlantic Division, hope to build on last season’s regional appearance and challenge for the division title.

 

North Carolina

2015 record:

34-24 (13-16 ACC, T-3rd Coastal)

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Tar Heels (#22 CB), picked to finish third in the Coastal Division, look to make it back to the NCAA Tournament after barely missing out on the field last season for the first time in 15 years.

 

Notre Dame

2015 record:

37-23 (17-13 ACC, T-2nd Atlantic) – Champaign Regional

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Irish (#27 CB), picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Division, hope to build on last year’s momentum and make back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament.

 

Pittsburgh

2015 record:

20-32 (9-21 ACC, 7th Coastal)

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Panthers, picked to finish seventh in the Coastal Division, look to make their first ever appearance in the ACC Tournament.

 

Virginia

2015 record:

44-24 (15-15 ACC, 2nd Coastal) – National Champion

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Cavaliers (#4 BA, #9 CB), picked to finish second in the Coastal Division, again have their sites set on Omaha after winning the program’s first national title on the diamond last season.

 

Virginia Tech

2015 record:

27-27 (13-16 ACC, T-3rd Coastal)

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Hokies, picked to finish sixth in the Coastal Division, look to be in a rebuilding year as they aim to return to the ACC Tournament for the second straight year.

 

Wake Forest

2015 record:

27-26 (12-18 ACC, 6th Atlantic)

Looking ahead to 2016:

The Demon Deacons, picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Division, hope to break through for their first regional bid in Coach Tom Walter’s six seasons.
