Notre Dame too much for Tigers

GREENVILLE — Clemson head coach Brad Brownell spoke to the media following the Tigers’ 89-83 loss to Notre Dame on Monday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville.

Despite cutting the lead to one or two points on eight different occasions, the Tigers could not get over the hump as they fell to 14-10 overall and 7-5 in the ACC. The loss put Clemson a game-behind the Irish in the ACC standings, who improved to 17-7 and 7-4 in the ACC.

Clemson now sits in a tie for sixth place in the ACC, while Notre Dame is a half-game back of third place.

Clemson was led by Jaron Blossomgame’s 30 points on 13 of 19 shooting. It marked the sixth time in the last seven games the junior has scored 20 or points in a game. He also had six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Avery Holmes added 17 points in the loss, while Donte Grantham dropped in 15 points and had four assists. Jordan Roper scored seven points and had six assists for the Tigers.

The difference in the game was the play of center Zach Auguste, who scored a team-high 19 points and had eight rebounds for Notre Dame. He alone outscored Clemson’s bigs, Landry Nnoko and Sidy Djitte. The two Clemson centers combined for five points and five rebounds as they both stayed in foul trouble all night.

Nnoko attempted one field goal all night (0-1), while Djitte was 1-for-3 from the field.
