Rodgers commits to Clemson

Flipped from Southern Cal and stolen right out from under Smokey’s nose in Knoxville, Amari Rodgers has committed to Clemson.

The four-star wide receiver from Knoxville Catholic went with his heart on Valentine’s Day and announced his commitment to the Tigers.

Rodgers made the decision public during a reveal on Periscope — selecting Clemson over Alabama, Florida State, Tennessee and Wake Forest.

This is the seventh announced commitment for the Tigers’ 2017 class, which now includes a five-star, three four-stars and three three-stars, according to the Rivals rankings. Rivals also lists Rodgers as the 25th best wide receiver in the country.

Clemson will utilize him at the 2-position — the same spot where Sammy Watkins helped re-write the school’s record books. Rodgers (5-9, 195) is more in the mold of current starter Artavis Scott, who will be a junior this fall.

Rodgers was offered by Clemson in December — days before he decommitted from Southern Cal, where his father is an assistant coach. His dad, former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin, is the Trojans’ offensive coordinator.
