Catching up with Chase Brice

Chase Brice and the rest of Clemson’s 2017 commitments were in town late last month for Junior Day.

The four-star quarterback from Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga. recently spoke with TheClemsonInsider about the trip.

“It was great. It was just great to see all the coaches again and get back up and see what they’re building for the new facility,” Brice said. “I got to tour around the campus some more, got some good history lessons from coach (Tony) Elliott.

“And it was good to meet some of the guys that Clemson is heavily recruiting. It was good to help recruit some of those guys, some of those receivers. We got one big offensive linemen committed that day, so it was just cool to meet everybody.”

The event afforded Brice the opportunity to meet fellow quarterback commitment Hunter Johnson.

“We actually were in the same Nike Opening Regional in Columbus. We were there together, but we didn’t formally meet,” Brice said.

He added, “He’s a great guy. We have a lot in common and I think we’re a lot a like in some ways. He’s really cool. We get along very well.”

Back home, Brice is gearing up for baseball season. Grayson’s first game is Monday night at Walnut Grove.

Brice, who plays third base for the Rams, still finds time to spin the football when he’s not playing baseball.

“I try to on the weekends, like on Sundays — I go up with my quarterback coach at Grayson and sometimes I meet with one of my other quarterback coaches, Tony Ballard, and they’ll just help me focus on my fundamentals and get me back into that throwing motion, make sure I don’t forget it,” Brice said. “But it’s not a hard transition really, because sometimes I’ll end up throwing the baseball like a football. On the weekends, I’ll try to still touch up on my fundamentals and football stuff.”

A return to Clemson is in the works for later this spring, either to watch practice or for the Orange and White game.
