The Clemson Insider takes a look back at Clemson’s 19-2 win over Maine to clinch the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
What happened?
The Black Bears got on the scoreboard right off the bat with a two-out solo home run in the top of the first. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the frame as Chase Pinder and Eli White led off with singles. Following two outs, a wild pitch and Chris Williams single brought both runners in to give Clemson a 2-1 lead. The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth with a four-run inning highlighted by a three-run homer from Pinder. Clemson didn’t waste time extending their lead as a seven-run fifth inning, including a grand slam from Seth Beer, broke the game open. The Tigers would go on to add two runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to complete the 19-2 victory.
Game-Changing Moment:
The game changed in the fourth and fifth innings as Clemson plated 11 runs over the two innings to break open a 2-1 game. The Tigers didn’t let up the rest of the contest and the Black Bears were unable to recover.
What went right?
Pretty much everything! Clemson had 22 hits on the day, as 14 different players collected a hit, while they scored 19 runs. The pitching staff had another solid day while the defense did not commit an error. The biggest part of the game was the number of players that the staff was able to get on the field for playing time in the contest.
What went wrong?
The Black Bears took an early 1-0 lead on a solo homer. After the Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom of the first they never looked back.
