Jones recaps Junior Day

The fourth visit to Clemson for four-star cornerback Deon Jones went about as well as the other three.

Jones was on campus last month for Junior Day.

“They still show me the same love,” he told TheClemsonInsider, during a recent interview. “I had a good time at this Junior Day, because they let us put the equipment on. I brought down my coaches. It was their first time and they said they loved it, so that was good.”

From Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C., Jones is listed by 247 as the No. 12 cornerback in the class of 2017. Before January, the Clemson coaches hosted him in November.

“It was good, because I didn’t see them since the Wake Forest game. I left after the third quarter, so I didn’t even get to stay at the end of the game,” Jones said. “The coaches, I have a good vibe with them — family atmosphere down there. They show everyone love.”

He added, “We were just catching up, basically just talking — not only about football, but academics and my grades.”

Earlier this month, Jones visited Maryland.

“That was my first time getting up there for a junior day just sitting down with the coaching staff. With the old coaching staff, really didn’t vibe like that…the new coaching staff, they’re cool,” Jones said. “I like the new coaching staff. They’re definitely motivated to make their team better. Just the guys from the DMV — they showed their comfortable with those guys, talking with those guys.”

Most view Clemson as the team to beat, but Maryland has entered into the equation, after making a favorable impression a couple of weeks ago.

“I wouldn’t really say they’re going up against each other, but those are two schools that I really like right now,” Jones said. “Those two are really sticking out to me.”

Virginia Tech could receive a visit this weekend.

As a junior, Jones had 24 tackles and three pass breakups.
