North Augusta DE set to visit

North Augusta defensive end Tre Lawson will visit Clemson on Saturday for Junior Day.

The 2017 three-star already lists a number of offers, including South Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, Southern Cal and Tennessee.

Last weekend, Lawson (6-6, 245) went to Florida State. South Carolina’s hosted him twice this year and Georgia has also scored a visit.

“It hasn’t been too hectic. It’s been fine. Every coach has been nice, of course,” Lawson said. “I guess the most hectic part has been going out of town every Saturday, but I’ve had good experiences with all the coaches.”

This weekend’s trip to Clemson will be his first, and he’s looking forward to meeting the coaches.

“It’s always kind of an unknown, but I feel like Clemson is a nice place. I want to go down there and get the experience, see what they have to offer,” he said.

Clemson’s run in 2015 was “extremely impressive.”

“That was a 14-win season, so that’s amazing. It’s Clemson. Even if they lost 14 games, it’s still Clemson,” Lawson said.

Growing up, Georgia was his team.

“When you were young, your parents say you like Georgia, you like Georgia, so that’s all you wanted to watch,” Lawson said, “But as I got older and then I started watching more of Clemson and watching more of South Carolina, watching more of the other schools that are down here.”

Several factors will be considered as he moves through the recruiting process.

“If they make me feel like apart of their family,” he said. “If they have a high graduation rate. If they have a good support system. If they have good player personnel — the players are good people. The coaches, if they like to interact with you — not just throwing you out there without any guidance. Stuff like that and that will help you be successful after football.”

As a junior, Lawson had 78.5 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, four fumbles recoveries and four pass breakups.
