Clemson was offer No. 15 for three-star safety Amari Carter.
The junior from Palm Beach Gardens High School (Fla.) was offered by defensive coordaintor Brent Venables on Wednesday. Venables told Carter’s head coach, who relayed the message.
Carter reached out to Venables later that night.
“He was just basically saying that I am a high priority for them and that what they do at Clemson is different than every other — the way they recruit,” Carter said. “To be apart of their recruiting process and just everything that will go on during their recruiting process is very different than any other schools.”
The Tigers’ offer left him with a “pretty good” feeling.
“When I’m going on Twitter looking at everyone who’s getting offers, there’s not really someone saying that they just got or received an offer from Clemson,” Carter said. “That’s a pretty good thing. It’s a great school and everything, and they have an outstanding football team.”
Contact with Clemson picked up earlier this year.
“After they watched my film, they did their research and they were impressed with what they saw and everything,” Carter said.
He’ll visit at some point in the not too distant future. Plans to visit others are also in the works.
“Probably soon — hopefully soon — I’m going to start getting my visits done and everything, so I can get a feel for a school and everything,” Carter said.
Miami hosted him earlier this year. Florida State had him up in the fall for the Miami game.
Before Clemson offered, Carter listed a top three with no order: Miami, UNC and Notre Dame.
“But out of my 15 offers…I’m giving them the same opportunities,” he said.
Carter scored five touchdowns as a junior. Two were off interceptions and another was a blocked field goal return. He totaled 60 tackles and three interceptions.
