BUFORD, Ga. – Jamyest Williams isn’t satisfied with one trip to The Opening.
Last summer, the four-star cornerback from Lawrenceville-Archer (Ga.) was one of a handful of rising juniors to pick up an invite to the annual showcase at the Nike headquarters in Oregon.
Williams would have scooped up a second invite if he wasn’t sidelined with a foot injury during Sunday’s regional camp in Atlanta.
The boot on his foot will come off before the end of April, just in time for the Columbus stop in May.
Clemson’s already hosted Williams (5-9, 170) for a pair of visits this year. First, in January for Junior Day, and again a couple of weeks later, to watch spring practice.
“I just got to see a vibe with coach (Mike) Reed — got to see him coach, see him interact with the players, see how his coaching style is and coaching technique,” Williams said. “Also, coach (Brent) Venables, I got to see him with the defense.”
The Tigers’ defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator impressed the No. 5 cornerback (ESPN) in the class of 2017.
“I think they have great chemistry. I see why they’re so powerful,” Williams said.
Head coach Dabo Swinney also managed to squeeze in some face time.
“He just told me how much he wanted me there — it’s a great place, a great home,” Williams said.
In addition to his Clemson visits, Williams has also been to Georgia, Florida State, Notre Dame and Tennessee in 2016. Trips to Auburn and Ohio State are also in the works.
As a junior, Williams rushed for 1,249 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also caught eight passes for 93 yards.
