Wilkins likes playing outside

Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins says the defense is starting to come along nicely, though nothing is perfect right now.

“It’s been just eleven practices, but guys are getting better since the first day,” the sophomore said earlier this week. “We are still not ready to play a game or anything like that, but, and I’m not going to say I’m pleased, but things are definitely coming along.”

Since returning from spring break, Wilkins says he had been taking more reps at defensive end than at defensive tackle. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney says Wilkins’ ability to play outside has given the coaching staff some comfort in knowing someone with experience can help them from a depth and leadership standpoint.

The most veteran defensive end they have on their roster right now is Austin Bryant, who played in 13 games last year, but took just 219 snaps.
