Cincinnati-Moeller defensive tackle Aeneas Hawkins is picking up some traction on the recruiting trail.
Florida, Florida State, Kentucky and Notre Dame have offered the 6-foot-3, 260-pound sophomore.
Clemson got its first in-person look last Saturday when he was in town for the Orange and White spring game.
“It went pretty well. I had a good chance to look around campus and the stadium. It was pretty cool,” Hawkins said.
A few of the Tigers’ coaches met with him, including defensive ends coach Marion Hobby.
“I talked to coach Hobby the most. He seemed like a good guy. He told me that he had watched my film and he was interested,” Hawkins said. “He planned on looking at me in the future.”
Clemson’s contact commenced around the same time Florida State pulled the trigger late last month.
“Obviously, they recently started looking at me, so it takes time,” he said of Clemson. “I understand that.”
Conversation about an offer was among the topics brought up during his conversation with Hobby.
“We had a good talk about that. He said he wanted me to come back down for a visit when they’re playing in a game,” Hawkins said. “He wanted to grow more comfortable with me and build a relationship, to see if it would be a good fit.”
Clemson certainly made a good first-impression.
“It was nice. Clemson is a place with rich tradition, so I know all about that,” he said. “It was good to see that in person — 50,000 for the spring game is pretty impressive, obviously, so it was good to see that type of atmosphere.”
Hawkins visited Notre Dame earlier this week and he’ll hit Ohio State this weekend. Trips to Pittsburgh, Penn State, Michigan State, South Carolina and Georgia are also in the works.
