Instant Replay: Georgia Tech 16 Clemson 1

CLEMSON, SC — TCI takes a look back at #22 Clemson’s Saturday split with Georgia Tech at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

What happened?

In game one, the Tigers (26-13, 9-11 ACC) won an extra inning affair as Eli White’s one-out single scored Reed Rohlman in the 10th inning to give Clemson the game one win.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets (26-13, 9-10) scored six runs over the first two innings and seven runs in the middle innings to tie the series and set up a Sunday rubber match.

Game-Changing Moment:

Game one had a couple of key moments. A Georgia Tech error extended the Clemson seventh inning and the Tigers took advantage with five runs to tie the game. In the 10th, Rohlman was able to get into scoring position on a hit and run before White came thru with the clutch hit.

Game two changed off the bat as the Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the first inning before running away with the game.

What went right?

Okey had three hits in the two games, including a big three RBI double in game one. Rohlman also had four hits in the two games. Pat Krall was again solid out of the bullpen, earning his sixth win with 3.0 scoreless innings. It was also good to see the team battle back in game one from a 7-2 deficit to tie the game late and win it in extras.

What went wrong?

The team was unable to take their positive momentum from the walk off win into game two as Georgia Tech put a beatdown on the Tigers in game two. Alex Eubuanks was unable to make it out of the first inning and Jake Higginbotham also struggled behind him as the Yellow Jackets scored 11 runs in the first four innings. Defensively, Clemson committed four errors between the games (including three in game two).
