Swinney wants to keep recruiting scholastic

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Dabo Swinney reaffirmed his stance against satellite camps just before speaking in front of the Greenville Clemson Club on Thursday at Fluor Field as part of Clemson’s Prowl and Growl Tour.

Like he told The Clemson Insider earlier this week at the ACC Spring Meetings in Amelia Island, Fla., Swinney isn’t judging how another coach runs his program, just personally he doesn’t understand why they would want to have a satellite camp.

“I’m not going to tell other people how to run their program. People can do whatever they want to do,” the Clemson coach said. “Everyone has to run their program the way they see fit. But satellite camps are not new. This stuff has been going on forever, it’s just the ACC and the SEC has not participated in that.

“When the rule went national and then got revoked, or whatever, and now it is open to everybody, that doesn’t change anything for us. Again, what other people want to do, that’s their business. I’m going to run Clemson and focus on what we have to do and the things that I believe in.”

As for Swinney’s thoughts on it personally, “I’m very much against satellite camps,” he said. “I think as football coaches we should do everything we possibly can do to keep our recruiting scholastic. We are the only sport left out there that is set up that way. In other words, all of our recruiting is done on our campus and on the high school campus. I don’t think it is good when you start getting third parties involved.”
