Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes linebacker Charles Thomas felt a flurry of emotion when he found out about his scholarship offer from Clemson on June 1.
The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Thomas, who visited Clemson for the spring football game in April and intends to visit again this summer.
“I was surprised, excited and happy all at the same time,” Thomas said of the offer. “It was truly a blessing to be offered by Clemson.”
Thomas, a member of the 2019 recruiting class, has other early offers from Maryland, Michigan, Tennessee, Toledo, Tulane and West Virginia.
Thomas thinks Clemson likes his intangible assets as a player.
“I am a leader, hard worker, have a high football IQ and I put my team first,” he said.
The 6-foot, 215-pounder loved being a part of the record crowd at the Orange and White game in 2016.
“It was great,” Thomas said. “I liked the campus. It was beautiful. The facilities are great, and the atmosphere was crazy.”
When Thomas returns to Clemson at some point this summer, he hopes to grow closer to Clemson’s coaching staff and absorb all the information he can about the school.
“I’m just looking to build relationships with the coaches,” Thomas said, “and learn as much about the university as possible.”
The bottom line for Thomas when it comes to choosing a school in the future is simple.
“Just wherever I fit best,” he said. “Wherever feels like home to me.”
Thomas has plenty of time to decide, so he doesn’t have any leaders in his recruitment right now.
With that said, Clemson is on good terms with Thomas.
“I don’t have a list at this time,” Thomas said, “but I definitely like Clemson a lot.”
