Future Clemson Tiger Kier Meredith had another strong performance at the Perfect Game Tournament hitting .455. The Clemson Insider caught up with the speedster to get the latest.
“It went alright, we didn’t make it into playoffs because we had a few hiccups during pool play and ended up finishing 5-1-1,” he said. “I continued to work on things in the game and got better down there so that’s always a positive.”
Another future Tiger Sam Weatherly has been living with the Meredith the past few week as they have played on the same team.
“Great, he’s loving the south! So I’m definitely looking forward to playing with him at Clemson,” said Meredith.
What is next for Meredith as he continues his summer baseball tour?
“I play in the Impact 17u World Series this weekend at Elon and NC state and after that I head to Tampa on August 1 for East Coast Pro and that will wrap up my summer,” he said.
Meredith says he keeps in touch with Clemson head coach Monte Lee and assistant coach Bradley LeCroy.
“I talked to them both recently and we really didn’t talk about much, just small talk and catching up. Me and Sam stopped by Clemson on the way to Georgia and spent some time with Coach (Greg) Starbuck while some games were being played there. We talked to Coach Lee there for a little bit, too,” Meredith said.
Meredith has spent the summer on the road but he wouldn’t want it any other way.
“It’s not bad at all, I have maybe spent a total of seven days all summer in my own bed and I’m actually loving every bit of it,” he said. “I miss my friends back home but they are all very supportive and love the fact that I’m doing something I love.”
Are there any players Meredith is working to recruit for the Tigers?
“Coach Lee doesn’t share who they are offering with us but I’m always pushing Clemson and representing the purple and orange,” he said.
It’s been several weeks since Meredith performance at the Tournament of Stars earned him a spot on team USA’s 40 man roster, but the excitement remains.
“I’m super excited. I’m ready to get to Houston and show everyone what I’m capable of,” said Meredith.
