4-star power forward Malik William gave the Clemson coaching staff some great news Wednesday when he called to let them know he wanted to be a Tiger.

“I gave the head coach a call and he didn’t answer so I called coach Smith and broke the news to him,” William told The Clemson Insider.

Coach Smith was excited to hear the good news.

“He was really happy I know from the way he sounded.  I knew that he had a big smile on his face,’ said William.

Why did the First Academy standout select the Tigers?

“I see it as a good fit for me and my family.  I love the coaching staff,” replied William.

Malik believe coach Brownell had the Clemson program headed in the right direction.

“I’m so excited.  He is a really good coach and he just wants his players to grow as men as well,” said William.

What are the strengths of the newest Clemson commit?

“My strength is knocking down three points, passing the ball, rebounding, and getting my teammates involved in the game more,” replied William.

Believe it or not Clemson’s new basketball facility had no impact on his decision.

“No, I wouldn’t mind to play in any gym with Clemson.  I know it will be nice, but I didn’t use that in my choosing the college,” said William.
