Clemson landed a big-time player on Friday afternoon when five-star cornerback A.J. Terrell announced his commitment to the Tigers with a video on Twitter.
The Clemson Insider was on hand at Westlake High School in Atlanta, Ga., when Terrell released the video, and spoke with him about his decision.
“It’s a dream come true,” Terrell told TCI. “It fits me, and I like the program. I like that it fits my playing style, and it’s a place where I feel like I can come in and make an impact right away.”
Terrell said it was love at first sight with Clemson when he took his first visit to the school in early July.
“When I went up there, I fell in love from first sight,” Terrell said. “I just kept going and kept, going, and kept falling more in love.”
Clemson’s coaching staff was thrilled after Terrell informed them of his commitment.
“They were real excited,” Terrell said. “They made me feel even more proud of my decision. I was real excited.”
With his recruiting process now behind him, Terrell can turn his attention to other recruits Clemson is targeting.
“Now that I’m committed, I can start recruiting, myself,” Terrell said.
Along with Clemson, Terrell had offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech, among others.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 1 cornerback in the nation and the No. 8 player overall in the class of 2017.
Terrell is the 13th member of Clemson’s 2017 recruiting class.
