Wide receiver Xyre Wilson, a member of the 2019 class, visited Clemson on Saturday to watch the Tigers practice. The Clemson Insider caught up with Wilson shortly after he left campus.
“I love Clemson, it was great I’m really looking forward to going back,” Wilson said.
Who made the visit with Wilson?
“My old head football coach Kenyatta Watson and some friends,” he said.
The Grayson High School (Ga.) standout got to see the facilities at Clemson, but that wasn’t the best part of the visit.
“We got to watch the practice. That was the best part,” he said.
Coach Swinney had a message for Wilson.
“Coach Swinney talked to me about the importance of grades and the importance of the people I hang around. He said to always keep good company and hang around the right people,” said Wilson.
Grayson opened its season this past Friday night.
“We played Douglas County last night. The game went very well,” Wilson said. “We were having a little bit of trouble in the first quarter just making careless mistakes, but we came together as a team and turned the game into a blow out.
“I had a couple of receptions and some really key blocks, but I couldn’t have had what I had if it wasn’t for my quarterbacks, Chase Brice and Jkori Jones for looking for me, and my offensive line for opening up the holes for the running back so I can make that key block to help the running back get in the end zone.”
When asked about his early leaders, Wilson responded, “I don’t have any at this time.”
Wilson also visited Tennessee this summer and plans to be back at Clemson this fall to watch the Tigers play in Death Valley.
