Elite 4-star discusses Clemson, July visit

Stafford (Va.) North Stafford four-star running back Devyn Ford, one of the nation’s top prospects in the 2019 class, visited Clemson in July.

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Ford about the visit.

“I enjoyed the atmosphere and meeting coach Dabo (Swinney) and coach (Tony) Elliott,” Ford said, “and watching a video on what the football team does throughout the year.”

Ford is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 player in Virginia, the nation’s No. 2 running back and the nation’s No. 12 player overall in the class of 2019.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder already owns north of 20 offers.

“It feels like an honor for people to see potential in me at a young age,” Ford said.

Ford broke out as a freshman in 2015, when he rushed for 1,865 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Clemson offered Ford on April 26.

“The offer meant a lot considering it is a team who went to the championship versus Alabama and put up a fight,” Ford said. “So, obviously it means they have a good coaching staff.”

What did Ford hear from Swinney and Elliott during his visit?

“From Dabo, he was just telling us about how the camp was going and what he expects when you come to the school,” Ford said. “And coach Elliott was just telling me that I was a good back.”

Ford feels that Swinney and Elliott are two coaches he could build a strong relationship with.

“Especially with coach Elliott since he’s the running backs coach,” Ford said.

This summer, Ford also visited Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Ford said he will try to visit Clemson again during the season, but that his next visit will most likely be after the season.
