Joyner puts on show in opener

Dakereon Joyner, a four-star athlete, put on a show this weekend in leading Fort Dorchester High School to a 48-35 victory over Georgia’s Sandy Creek.

“I guess you can say, we (as a team) played great,” said Joyner to The Clemson Insider. “We started off slow in the first due to the rain, but we had to adapt to it and went into halftime 21-21 and came out spectacular in the second half.”

The 2018 prospect put up some impressive stats in the victory.

“I went 14-24 for 440 yards passing and 70 yards rushing including a touchdown,” Joyner said.

Joyner plans to visit Death Valley this fall, but isn’t sure which game.

Which schools are recruiting Joyner the hardest right now?

“South Carolina, NC State and Virginia Tech,” he said.

There was plenty of talk before the battle between Georgia and South Carolina about how much better the football was in Georgia.

“I’m the kind of person that blocks it out so it didn’t bother me at all. But I was definitely tired of it,” Joyner said.

Joyner is taking on a bigger leadership role this season.

“I’m trying to be the best leader I can be this year,” he said. “Coach is expecting me to since I’m an upperclassman this year. I have to lead my team vocally and by example.”

What are Joyner’s goals for this season?

“I want to win a state championship, put up over 4,000 passing yards and academically maintain a 3.6 core during the season,” he said.
