Can Clemson be Running Back U?

While it is obvious Clemson is fully loaded at the wide receiver position and has been able to live up to the name of Wide Receiver U, Clemson running back Wayne Gallman wants Tiger fans to also expect to see a Running Back University at Clemson as well.

“What Clemson fans can expect from the running backs is hopefully this can be a Running Back U,” the junior said.

Gallman said Running Back U  is not something the team talks about, but it has always been a thought. Having always seen Wide Receiver U, Gallman feels like it’s the running backs turn to prove they can make a name for themselves.

Clemson fans can in fact expect to see a lot out of the running backs this season.

Making his return after suffering from an ACL injury that sidelined him the last year and a half, Adam Choice is back to full strength and is ready to go. Tyshon Dye also returns along with sophomore C.J. Fuller, who adds to the depth the Tigers have at the running back position.

Joining the group, is freshman Tavien Feaster, who  has made an impression on the coaches and players and has created some extra competition throughout the summer.

“They are pushing me everyday. I have to go out there and work my butt off,” Gallman said. “They have just done a really good job of learning the playbook, learning the news play, and all that we put in.”

Gallman says the moniker Running Back U is not a goal for the Tigers this season, and has not been a personal goal for him because he is simply going to do what he has always done.

“Just stick to the plan, work out and just put my all in everything we did and what Coach (Joey) Batson has had us do and really just go off the field and do my own thing,” Gallman said. “Make sure I’m getting better at what I know I can get better at and just stay focused.”

The junior seemed very confident where he currently is mentally and physically and is anxious to get back on the field and play football.

“I feel like I am at very good place. I’m ready to go out there and play now,” he said. “We have been focusing on Clemson the past summer really past half of year. It’s good to be finally be able to look at someone on film rather than our defense.”

Looking back at the 2015 season, Gallman set a Clemson single-season record for rushing yards (1,527) and yards from scrimmage (1,740).

Anxious to set more records this season, Gallman is ready to sink his cleats in a field of fresh grass at Auburn on opening day.

“I like playing on the road rather than playing at home because we play so many games here. I really like to go see different stadiums, see different towns. I just like playing at a new stadium that I haven’t played at before. I am ready to go to Auburn right now,” he said.

Gallman says he feels Auburn will bring a challenge but it’s nothing they haven’t seen before.

‘They have a pretty good defensive line, but I don’t think it is any different than what we have seen on ours,” he said. “They have really good players. It is going to be a challenge for the first game. Everybody is ready to play some football and we have to be focused.”
